Media Literacy is a 21st century approach to education. It provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with messages in a variety of forms — from print to video to the Internet. This class aims to help the student (myself)  

  • Become media literate

  • Develop an understanding of how media content influences everyone

  • Understand how I (the student), in turn, can influence others.

  • Discuss the importance of multiple points of view

  • Learn to identify (U.S.) media's powerful leanings towards commercialism, individualism, and other cultural ideologies.

  • Examine the use of digital media in all forms of communication.

  • Learn how to identify a niche, curate stories in social media (solo and in teams)

  • Build a following on deadline using multimedia tools and platforms while upholding professional and ethical standards.


Class Format

There is one meeting time for this course.

  • The class will be a discussion driven by the readings and audio­visual content.

  • Students are expected to participate in discussion.

  • Classes will require research, writing and reporting for projects.
